ABOUT THE TD CLUB

HISTORY OF THE TD CLUB

The Miami Touchdown Club was founded in 1959 by a group of local community leaders with a strong interest in supporting all aspects of football in Dade County, Florida.  Long-established relationships exist with our local public and private high schools, the University of Miami, the Miami Dolphins and Florida International University.  Club events include dinner meetings featuring well-known speakers, members-only invitations to closed college football practices, UM/FIU incoming freshman dinners, Dolphin outings, and the annual UM football awards banquet.

One of the primary functions of the Club is to assist local high school coaches in promoting their athletes to colleges in their efforts and securing scholarships, thus allowing these student athletes to continue their education while playing football at the next level.  This program, Operation Scholarship, has evolved from a printed statistical book, mailed to over 300 college coaches, to the current, secure, interactive internet platform, now available to over 1200 colleges at all levels.  This platform also enables college coaches to search for that "special" player.

In 2005, a 501 (c) (3) Charitable Foundation was formed: The South Florida Touchdown Club Foundation, Inc. d/b/a/ The Miami Touchdown Club.  Membership was opened to all individuals and corporations interested in supporting and promoting football in South Florida.  As a charitable foundation, the Foundation is able to solicit tax-deductible donations, sponsorships and endowments, allowing it to make donations to worthy South Florida charities.  

The South Florida Touchdown Club Foundation, Inc.:

·         Funds and operates the Operation Scholarship Program for high school football players

·         Operates and presents the annual "Joe Brodsky" high school football coach of the year award and scholarship 

·          Conducts regular membership meetings with featured sports celebrities 

·          Seeks out programs to enhance student athlete scholarship opportunities

·         Sponsors positive action programs promoting football at all levels in South Florida

·         Organizes events to showcase South Florida football programs 

·          Offers opportunities for charitable donors to participate in the activities of The South Florida Touchdown Club Foundation, Inc.

·         Provides recognition events for showcasing outstanding student-athlete accomplishments

·         Honors members of the South Florida community who have demonstrated their dedication to the area's football and athletic activities



MISSION OF OPERATION SCHOLARSHIP
Enable Miami-Dade and Monroe County high school football players to attain college scholarships through a technologically advanced football scouting guide.


HISTORY OF OPERATION SCHOLARSHIP
In 1961, The South Florida Touchdown Club Foundation, Inc.  added to its purpose “Operation Scholarship.” Operation Scholarship is a football scouting guide, which is compiled by Club members and lists High School Student-athletes pictures, and statistics on a website. Hundreds of college coaches throughout the nation rely on this information to recruit Miami-Dade and Monroe County high school football players to their program.


HOW OPERATION SCHOLARSHIP WORKS?

  1. South Florida Touchdown Club  Ambassadors develop / maintain a relationship with Miami-Dade and Monroe County high school coaches
  2. South Florida Touchdown Club  Ambassadors distribute profile questionnaires in order to gather high school player information
  3. Miami-Dade and Monroe County high school football player information is collected and photos of the players in their jerseys are taken by Miami Touchdown Club Ambassadors
  4. Player profiles are created within the Operations Scholarship platform
  5. High school football coaches receive training on how to use the Operations Scholarship platform
  6. High school football coaches are granted password access to their high school’s account. Note: This account is the mechanism for updating player profile and communication between high school coach and college recruiter
  7. High school football coaches perform maintenance on their team’s player profiles. Note: maintenance may include adding newspaper clippings, game statistics and college referral letters
  8. College coaches / recruiters are notified regarding available information and are invited to register on the Operation Scholarship platform. Note: Following registration, this is the mechanism for communication between the high school coach and college recruiter
  9. College coaches / recruiters perform searches against the database of high school football players
  10. Once a desired high school football player is found, the college coach and/or recruiter contacts the high school coach for additional information
  11. High school player receives a college scholarship offer


2007 RESULTS

  • 100% of the high school coach’s independent platform accounts have been created & activated
  • 61% (28/46) of the projected high schools have been documented and indexed into platform. (Down by 11%) (Class of 2006 - 72% (33/46))
  • 358 of the projected 400-player profiles have been completed & indexed. This translates to a completion rate 89.5% for the 2006 project. (Down by 16.5%) (Class of 2006 – 106% (422/400))
  • The total average number of students documented per school is 13 with outliers at 2 & 36. (28/13/2/36)
  • The average number of public school students documented per school is 13 with outliers at 3 & 36. (28/13/3/36)
  • The average number of private school students documented per school is 8 with outliers at 2 & 10. (2/8/2/10)
  • 98% of the documented student athletes are seniors. (Up by 8% (351 of 358)) (Class of 2006 - 90% (380 of 422))
  • 2% of the documented student athletes are juniors (Down by 6% (7 of 358) (Class of 2006 - 8% (35 of 422))
  • 0% of the documented student athletes are sophomores (Down by 2% (0 of 358) (Class of 2006 - 2% (7 of 422)
  • 83% of the athlete profiles have digital pictures attached. (Down by 4% (297 of 358) (Class of 2006 –87% (367 of 422))
  • 100% of the documented player’s high school football coaches have been notified of the system availability and functionality.
  • 25% (7 of 28) of those coaches are using the platform to its full potential (Down by 27% (17 of 33)).
  • 9.75% (117 of 1200) of colleges and universities targeted have registered with the service and are actively using the platform. (Up by 2.15%) (Class of 2006 - 7.6% (92 of 1200))
  • 138 coaches from 117 colleges and universities are using the platform. (Up by 34 coaches) (Class of 2006 (104 coaches from 92))
  • The 358 profiles have been looked at 283 times by registered coaches. (Down by 37%) (Class of 2006 - 452 views)
  • An average of 2 profiles are reviewed each time a college coach uses the platform. (Down from 5)
  • College coaches have examined 79% of all the documented athlete profiles. (Down from 93%)

FLORIDA STUDENT ATHLETE PROFILE SERVICES

The South Florida Touchdown Club Foundation, Inc. (TSFTDCF) was founded in 1961 with a mission of assisting South Florida High School football players in their efforts of reaching the next educational level through scholarship opportunities. As part of the South Florida Touchdown Club Foundation, a charitable 501c3, OPERATION SCHOLARSHIP was formed to facilitate this purpose. TSFTDCF efforts have been effect for over 50 years in various forms. In 2005 the TSFTDCF contracted Florida Student Athlete Profile Services to market these players. The interactive web based platform is being used to facilitate this operation.

Florida Student Athlete Profile Services documented over 400 Miami Dade and Monroe County Senior Football players into their searchable platform. The local high school coaches were tasked with identifying only those players, which they believed were eligible to continue at the next level - both academically and athletically. The athletes were tasked with only submitting pertinent personal, academic, and athletic information to provide recruiting coaches an accurate and comprehensive evaluation of a prospect's ability and qualifications

Also each high school football coach in Miami Dade and Monroe County received independent, password-protected accounts for their use during the college-recruiting season. This provides a direct link between the college coaches from throughout the nation and our local south Florida high school coaches for balanced, uninterrupted communications at a tremendous cost saving to both parties. All contact information on the profiles is that of the high school coach, the parents, or the player directly. This is the only platform / program available in the nation, which provides this type of convenience and is considered by many as the one stop-shopping vehicle to search for quality student-athletes in South Florida.

As a note, SFTDCF provides this service at no cost to high school football athletes and coaches. This platform is fully funded and maintained for the sole purpose of improved communication between high school coaches and the colleges
